The key is how much. I'd suggest very little and what is "lost" is replaced in spades by a better look and better mouthfeel.

As I've said often, but it is worth repeating, if the beer is flabby in the first place, a sparkler will kill it. Too much Southern style beer is flabby. When properly conditioned, I can live without a sparkler. If only conditioning of cask beer was much better everywhere.Tandlemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06804499573827044693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629758183547510158.post-78129094560406659782012-03-07T09:42:57.534+00:002012-03-07T09:42:57.534+00:00it may not flatten it but it does reduce condition...it may not flatten it but it does reduce condition, as much as you may pretend it doesnt.

That said Stout and Porter I would usually prefer with a sparkler.Kieran Haslett-Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04562970144894398803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629758183547510158.post-36575640988658442962012-03-06T14:55:34.183+00:002012-03-06T14:55:34.183+00:00Tyson

However, it must be true that creating the head removes some of the condition. For some people that is clearly a price worth paying and for others it isn't. There's no right or wrong here.

Northerners who attend CAMRA beer festivals where most beers are on gravity are quite accustomed to beer served without sparklers, and at the excellent Wigan beer festival this weekend, nearly all the beer sold out without any complaints about the lack of a sparker-created head.

So, in the spirit of the sparkler squabble (debate is far too grand a word), which do you prefer: daddy or chips?Neville Grundyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10923209266005338452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629758183547510158.post-24631329347144586852012-03-05T10:33:15.167+00:002012-03-05T10:33:15.167+00:00Et tu Brute!Et tu Brute!Tandlemanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06804499573827044693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8629758183547510158.post-41718658068998031402012-03-05T09:57:13.104+00:002012-03-05T09:57:13.104+00:00"Well done Tom.
