Did I ever mention that I love Cadbury's Tiffin? No longer made here for at least 30 years, maybe more, but still made in Ireland, it is an occasional treat for me when I can get my hands on some. In return for picking her up from the airport a few weeks ago, I now have a supply from Eileen's mum. I notice a new wrapper and "Tiffin" isn't in such big letters. Is that worrying?
Lovely aren't they? I'm saving them for Christmas as a present for myself.
They have proper foil and a waxed paper wrapper. None of your shrink wrapped bollocks.
Ah, simple pleasures! I used to like Kit Kat, but haven't eaten them since Nestlé took Rowntree's over.

ReplyDeleteYou're right: tiffin was a light meal or snack in days of the Raj. From my time in KL, I recall old India hands still using the term. The word is still used in India today.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that it started life as Fry's Tiffin, was a lot smaller and with a mainly white wrapper. Anyone else remember that? Am I showing my age?

ReplyDeleteCadburys isn't really chocolate, it's non-cocoa fat with a vague hint of cacao in it (not enough to be called chocolate in Europe, funnily enough) and loads of dried milk solids.
