Not Beer for Once!

Did I ever mention that I love Cadbury's Tiffin? No longer made here for at least 30 years, maybe more, but still made in Ireland, it is an occasional treat for me when I can get my hands on some. In return for picking her up from the airport a few weeks ago, I now have a supply from Eileen's mum. I notice a new wrapper and "Tiffin" isn't in such big letters. Is that worrying?

Lovely aren't they? I'm saving them for Christmas as a present for myself.

They have proper foil and a waxed paper wrapper. None of your shrink wrapped bollocks.

  1. Ah, simple pleasures! I used to like Kit Kat, but haven't eaten them since Nestlé took Rowntree's over.

I stopped eating Kit Kat when they changed the size and stopped me being able to tell my favourite joke when I started unwrapping one.

" What's the difference between Joan Collins and a Kit Kat ? "

" You can only get four fingers in a Kit Kat. "

  4. It's a bit like Fruit and Nut but with biscuit replacing the nuts.

  5. PP Thanks for that cultural intervention.

  6. There's also several references to 'tiffin' in 'Carry On Up The Khyber', which I assume refer to something else... ;-)

  7. You're right: tiffin was a light meal or snack in days of the Raj. From my time in KL, I recall old India hands still using the term. The word is still used in India today.

  8. I'm pretty sure that it started life as Fry's Tiffin, was a lot smaller and with a mainly white wrapper. Anyone else remember that? Am I showing my age?

Interesting concept: "shrink wrapped bollocks" Doesn't sound very comfortable! :-)

  9. I enjoyed this post Herr'man. This really shows your tender side. It'll soon be made by Hershey. As we gobble up all your culture, soon Proper Real Keg will be introduced. This is probably what the Mayan's were on about regarding 2012. It's coming!

  10. Cadbury is twice the market capitalisation of Hershey - so maybe, maybe not.

  13. Always struck me as strange how the Irish seem to have so many varieties of chocolate compared to what's available in newsagents over here.

I mean, Cadburys would hardly go to all that trouble for the population of, say Greater Manchester would they?

  15. Anonymous is obviously as ignorant as he is bad mannered. TM has no beard. And don't insult people without identifying yourself ~ that's the coward's way.

  16. Cadburys isn't really chocolate, it's non-cocoa fat with a vague hint of cacao in it (not enough to be called chocolate in Europe, funnily enough) and loads of dried milk solids.

    Nice.

It's the keg lager of chocolate!

  17. Well I like it, so you can have your waxy, fatty European stuff. I'll have my Tiffin and enjoy it.
