As You Were at JDW?

A little bird tells me that Greene King IPA will shortly replace Ruddles Best on their bars, presumably with the happy agreement of GK.

I know most of you, like me won't be bothered either way, but I just thought I'd let you know.

  1. Presumably JDW won't be selling IPA at 99p a pint this time, which is what led GK to withdraw it before.

I get the impression that JDW aren't the mega-bargain for cask ales that they used to be, with most priced around the £2 mark.

  2. surely you mean 1.50 with all those CAMRA 50p vouchers to be used!

  3. I struggle to use mine. About every couple of months I go to the local JDW for a meal and use one or two, but apart from that I never visit them.

The JDW in Stockport (the Calvert's Court) serves acceptable grub, and the beer is approaching GBG standard, but it's just so totally soulless. If I want a decent pint in congenial surroundings there are numerous better bets.

  4. I just dont have one nearby, and the one in Cardiff is not the nicest of establishment by any stretch. I've given away most of mine or they expired.

  5. CAMRA should end the Wetherspoons vouchers deal, as it makes CAMRA look as though it's in Wetherspoon's pocket. I only ever use a few myself, as I prefer to drink elsewhere for similar reasons to Curmudgeon.

  6. Arn: the one in Cardiff - is that the one in the converted theatre? I quite liked that one.

  7. It takes more than a few 50p vouchers to get me into their pubs. The ones in Wirral are dreadful. Three or four beers maximum, usually in poor condition. Never enough staff either.

  8. Nev - yes thats the one, building nice, sometimes the clientèle not so. Perhaps i was unlucky on my visits.
Dont have a problem with JDW myself, one i used to visit before i moved was fine, introduced me to good new (cheap) beers regularly.

  9. Carling seemed to make a comeback recently, alongside some "world" bottle louts. All better priced than elsewhere. Don't you pong drinkers always go for the "guest" ale, though?

  10. RedNev - how could anyone think CAMRA's in McSpoons pocket? they'd have to get out of Greedy Kerching's pocket first!
