National Winter Ales Festival 2010

As some of you know, I'm involved as Deputy Organiser for the above event. This year we are at a new and bigger venue, so why not come along to one of the biggest selections of British beers, as well as an extensive foreign beer list that includes many rarities on draught and in bottle? Want to increase you beer knowledge all under one roof? This is the place!

Details are: 20th-23rd January 2010, Sheridan Suite, Manchester, M40 8EA

Wednesday - Evening; Thursday, Friday & Saturday - All day

The Sheridan Suite, Oldham Road, Manchester, M40 8EA, is just 1.2 miles from the Northern Quarter along Oldham Rd. It has a huge (free) car park (300 vehicles), that can accommodate many coach trips direct to the event. It is served by numerous direct buses from the City Centre.

ALL beers will be available at all times including the Champion Winter Beer Of Britain, as the competition will be judged before opening, allowing us to announce the winners early in the trade session. So be one of the the first to try the winning beers. Food will be available during all sessions.

This is a must attend event for the serious beer person. If any blogger needs trade session tickets (Wednesday from 14.30), then just let me know.

I look forward to seeing many of my readers there!

  10. Less than two from Piccadilly Station Cookie. 1.8 in fact. 1.6 from Victoria with all the NQ pubs in between. Piece of.

  11. I know the CIS Building isn't available this year but I think choosing this venue may turn out to be a mistake.

I won't be there myself for health-related reasons but speaking to several mates who are regular attenders none of them is going either. The main reason is the location. I know Google Maps says it's within a couple of miles of both mainline stations but I think the organisers have underestimated the psychological resistance of many drinkers to travel outside their city centre comfort zone for a pint. I hope I'm wrong for the continued existence of the event.

  12. Well I hope you are wrong too. Many events of this nature have to take place outside the exact city centre and don't suffer from it. Of course we thought long and hard about it. We have had great support from staff and from suppliers, great support from most drinkers and most are prepared to suck it and see or so they tell us. The bus will get you there at little cost in under 10 mins from the centre. A lot of our customers come from many miles away. I doubt if another short hop will bother them. I am sorry your mates can't or won't make that effort and am sorry they will miss a great event. I'd ask you to ask them to give it a go. If they live in Greater Manchester, frankly there is no excuse not too.
