Too Busy For Me

I complained about pubs being empty the other day. Not so the Marble Arch. When I picked E up off the train, we popped in for one, but were hardly able to squeeze in the door. It was full of happy and happily pissed people enjoying the various beers on offer.

We stayed for one. My pint of the ludicrously named "Pint" was fine, as was E's half of Manchester Bitter. Two thoughts occurred to me as we fled. Thank goodness smoking was banned and why do drunks converse with each other at the top of their voices?

E remarked in the car - "That's probably how our table at the THT sounds on a Sunday". Um. Yes. Probably!

How about we swap Kraut Gaststätten, Kneipen, und Brauereien for your pubs (keep your plumbing though!) and breweries (and smoking ban!) and call it even? Smoke-free English pubs and real ale in Krautley...my personal fantasy.

Whoops--forgot: You get to keep the sparklers and swan-necks; they'd work just as well with Real Lager as they do with Real Ale. And I get to keep the Bierkeller(s).

Lees under gravity at the Bierkeller...damn. What was that one other bitter I was so fond of that I'd stumbled across at the Fringe? Would he consider emmigrating?

Can't remember Nick, but you'll just have to keep drinking these crappy (not) keller biers!

After I'd sung its praises to you (IIRC, I feared I'd not be able to find its equal during the rest of my visit), you rang the brewer up to tell him about it. That was a nice touch.

And some Kellerbier(s) *are* better than others...and all are a bit too strong.

My wife has called me out on that score before - too busy or too empty - I'm never happy!

I had a couple of jars in the Marble Arch one evening last year and found it damnably civilised.

It's a great pub BN, but not for us that night, but of course I can easily go anytime. And do.
