Talk About Hoppy

At our CAMRA meeting last night I started on Phoenix White Monk, keeping a very special beer in reserve for my last pint. The beer? "Let There Be Hops."

Mallinsons - me - a big fan - has brewed this for Dave Szwejkowski (a renowned ticker also known as Dave Unpronounceable) in celebration of his 30th birthday. Described on the Mallinson's web site as "Dark blonde colour. Strong hop aroma, with a slightly sweet malt and balanced hop taste, with a long intense hop finish. Very moreish for its 5.3% ABV."

The description didn't do it justice. It was a hop monster of the first order. Some of our lot couldn't finish their pint. It grew on you, though one and a half was enough.

I had a session on it in the New Oxford on Sunday. It reminded me very much of Stone Ruination IPA. Incredible stuff.

Funny, I can remember what it tasted like but I don't remember how I got home!

Ah but you are missing a joke somewhere I think.

quite possibly, brain not functioning properly ahead of another 3 day weekend, though I must admit that the name immeidately puts me in mind of the Good Soldier Svejk.

Always wondered if Eddie is real, or just a figment of Tysons, obviously furtive, imagination...

Anyway, I've got a dry hopped thing in the cellar still conditioning. I'm hoping it's going to be an "Oh my god that's hoppy" kind of thing.

Dave - Sounds like a good beer. Eddie, The Manx Minx, WHB, Archimedes et al are all too real I'm afraid. Some of them, even, are both real and unreal.

Velky Al - I've added you to my links list. I should have done it long ago! Lazy me.

Tandleman - thanks for that! Looking forward to hunting out some of the Lees beers I keep reading about when I get to the States. Crazy that I will have a far wider range of British beers over there than I could dream of over here. Still mustn't grumble, the Czech know what they are up to in general.

Some of the Lees beers you can get in the states, you can't get here. Not even in the brewery!

Dave

I always wondered if Tandleman was just a figment of my imagination but apparently other people can see him as well.

It is written that no matter where you drink, Tandleman will always be by your side.

Wait till you try the beer Tara and I are cooking up for my 20,000th later this year... !!

But LTBH was superb, much Nelson Sauvin (so nothing like Stone beers), but the dry-hopped version was even better IMO.

I'll look forward to that.
